2014 RyanMan Triathlon!
My name is Austin LaSource, I am a husband, a father, and a triathlete.
In 2014 I was training to compete in my first full distance Ironman race
in Chattanooga, Tennessee when I received the news. Ryan, at that time my
15-month old son, had relapsed and was now in his second fight against Leukemia.
At that point I did what any father would; I turned all of my attention to helping
my son fight this terrible disease. Little did I know at the same time a group of
friends were working behind the scenes to help me reach my goal of completing a
140.6 distance triathlon.
Ryanman was born. I, along with dozens of supporters finished the 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and the 26.2 mile run in the inaugural 2014 Ryanman. The support and buzz around this race was so great that we had to keep it going. Year two of Ryanman will bring a shorter distance course, but allow hundreds of people the chance to not only complete the tough challenge of conquering a 70.3 mile course, but also to bring awareness and help the fight against childhood cancer.
Following his bone marrow transplant, Ryan is doing very well. To follow Ryan LaSource along his journey to fight Leukemia, visit his facebook page.
My name is Austin LaSource and I am a Ryanman…are you?
